So, I just received my R61 I boot it up and the first thing I see is a BSOD. I try to boot it up again and it just idles at the Thinkpad screen. I press the ThinkVantage button and the text on the screen disappears, but NOTHING happens.

Good luck. I had a similar problem when I first received by T61p. After a few tries it booted up properly - maybe you'll get lucky? Don't expect any help from Lenovo/IBM though, the problem was way over their heads and yet they refused to take it back. It seems to be running alright now, but I'll always wonder if there's something wrong with my machine..

Mine just punched its way through, eventually found other sticking points, and then managed to pass those too. Sounds like your issue might surpass mine.

This is pretty much unbelievable, the laptop is idling at the splash page.

Well, I just got off the phone with customer support, at least they have some good folks working there. Looks like I'm going to bring it in to one of the service centers to get the mobo replaced tomorrow.
