I have two R61's and both will not light up the wifi light when it is clearly on and working (the BT light works fine). My T61 has no problem with the wifi light.
Another problem on the R61's the on screen LCD brightness meter doenst show. The FN combo works in adjusting the screen but there is no on screen meter.
Any idears?

Try the Thinkpad Hotkey Utility for your second problem. Couldn't help you with the first one though.
-
Mine does not have the onscreen brightness display either, and i'm guessing neither the R61 or T61 has this feature from the factory.
For the Wireless LED, have you checked the settings in the BIOS? -
ill check the bios. thx
I do have the hotkey stuff installed, so thats whats confusing me.
And my T61 does in fact have an on screen birghtness display -
Oh you mean a OSD for brightness? I don't have that either.
-
-
Yes, only on the T61. It looks like the Volume control on a TV
-
-
install the thinkpad hotkey manager.
-
do you see the bars when you adjust the volume from the keyboard?
-
yes, I do see the Volume control on screen. Its a solide green bar that moves, whereas the ON screen Brightness is a series of bars (only on the T61)
-
s4iscool. Did you solve your problem with the on-screen display for panel brightness; and if yes, how so?
-
i could not on the R61's. I got everyhting else working smooth, so i gave up. i sure would like to have the on screen screen brightness on the R61s as well though...its a basic feature that should be there
-
i have bars for the volume, but i do not have it for the brightness. I would be interested in a solution for this if someone figures it out.
-
I keep seeing post where people have a screen brightness OSD. I'm hearing it's related to the Hotkey driver, which i already have installed. The magnifying and volume OSD works fine, but i cannot seem to find the screen brightness OSD on my T61. It's starting to irritate me now.

In a thread over a thinkpads.com, GommJabarr has stated: "While it is true the Hotkey utility driver controls this function, the display driver must be the Lenovo supplied one. Also I believe you need the Lenovo System Interface driver and Lenovo ACPI Power Management driver installed."
Does anyone know how to locate each specific driver listed above, to know whether or not we have the most up-to-date driver according to the IBM driver site?
I think i've found the ACPI Power Management driver, and on my system, it is listed as v1.42. The newest driver version listed on the IBM site is v.143, 10 July 2007. I tried to do a driver update and my system states i have the most up-to-date driver already installed, which is not true.
Come on brightness OSD...!!! -
whats strange is that i actually saw the OSD for the video for the first time ever. it was while my laptop was running off the battery power. I can't seem to replicate it now though.
-
i just Dl the hotkey driver from Lenovo... No volume or brightness bars ... but i always had the wireless light.

Forget about auto-driver update utility. Just install manually. -
just Dl Lenovo System Interface driver and Lenovo ACPI Power Management driver I GOT THE VOLUME but no Brightness bars
-
Presentation Director wouldn't have anything to do with the brightness OSD would it?
just a thought -
Edit: I just noticed something. When Andrew did the original review for the T61 14.1" model, he noted that there was NO OSD for the scree brightness. -
-
Just got done installing 4 new drivers: ACPI Power Management, Lenovo System Interface, Power Manager for Vista, and the newest Hotkey driver v2.03.0705.
Still no brightness OSD. I'm about to give up. -
@ s4iscool
Is there anyway you can post up a screenshot of what the brightness OSD looks like? -

Thanks for posting that. Now if i can just figure out what's causing the feature not to work...
-
just to throw my hat into the ring...
my friend has a x61s, and it does not have a working on Screen Brightness Meter. All the other on screen displays (volume, light, etc) work perfectly normally.
and to add a little something more, i noticed that when you press caps-lop on her computer, it doesn't display anything in the bottom right, which happens on my z61t. I don't know if this is a relevant issue, but just thought i'd add it. -
I dunno if it helps but, if at any point you uninstalled the file in the Add/Remove Programs called On Screen Display, that killed it for me. I am working on getting the program back now as I am an installer and didnt realize it killed all of those OSD messages.
