I haven't seen anyone comment on the new R61e yet. I know its a step down with it being a celeron and all, but has there ever been a new thinkpad offered for this cheap? with the sale and 10% coupon, a base model is only $600.
And is this the first glossy screen for a thinkpad (no extra charge for the option)?

A ThinkPad with a glossy screen, the end must be near. It would be nice if they offered the glossy WSXGA+ from the N100. I'd be interested in that notebook.
Construction wise, the R61e is the same as the others in the R series, but lacks a touchpad and has a fixed optical drive. -

If none of those things are important to you... -
Hi all,
Just wanted to bump this thread: has anyone had any hands on experience with these laptops, or seen any benchmarking? I'm thinking about buying one for my girlfriend. Most of what she does is email and web browsing, so I'm sure this would be fine for that. However, she will be doing some photo editing with something like photoshop elements 6.0: any sense on how well the Celeron 540 M 1.8Ghz would perform for that? Adobe's system reqs for PSE 6.0 are "Intel® Pentium® 4, Pentium M, or Intel Centrino® 1.3GHz (or compatible) processor". -
If she only does light editing, I think it'll be fine. The Celeron is a better CPU than the Pentium 4. I had CS3 running on my old Sempron 2600+ desktop. It seemed to do OK.
The biggest thing about the R61e I think for most people is it lacks a touchpad which is unusual for a notebook. I would make sure she's OK with it if she's never used one. It seems people either really like or not. Now if she's using a mouse, then maybe it's not as much of an issue. Otherwise, it's as well built as the rest of the ThinkPad line.
