When I open System Update, I get the following:

System update has detected a serious problem loading language files and cannot continue. Please contact the Lenovo Support Centre.

This is recent. I have used System Update several times previosly with no problems. this is the first attempt with XP Pro SP3 if that has any bearing. Any ideas?

It might have an issue to do with SP3. Did you make a restore point or a ghost image? If so try restoring and see what happens.

Thanks. I think I'll wait a bit on this first to see if there are other opinions

I know as a fact it's the Service pack though. Service Pack's effect the language files on your computer. You might of downloaded the wrong language pack with the Service pack.

I went and got the updates from the lenovo site. They all took after rebooting AND System update is again functional. The ways of computers, especially Widows, are wierd!

Lenjack: please help with one detail: I had the exact same problem, but uninstalled SystemUpdate first (via Control Panel), then downloaded the latest, and tried to install. All hell broke loose ...

So, did you uninstall first? or just run the install over top of your current stuff?

    THANK YOU!
