I have a Thinkpad R61i (Model 7650 a6g 1.46 Pentium Dual) which came with 2 sticks of 512MB of memory pre-installed. I wish to upgrade but am not sure if I should replace the existing memory with 2*1GB sticks or leave in one of the 512s and install a 2GB stick. Both options cost about the same.

Would there be any advantage in having a matching pair or is having more memory just better? Crucial's memory configurator says this model doesn't support dual channel memory- but not sure.

Would mixing different memory brands cause any problems? I was thinking about buying Corsair.

    Any advice much appreciated.

No problems with mixing brands. My question would be which version of windows are you running? (ie. XP? Vista?)
