The screen backlight just died. Otherwise the computer is still functioning - LED lights etc. You can still (barely) see the desktop icons if you position it right.
Sometimes if I let it sit for awhile, then press a key, the backlight will come back on for maybe 4 seconds before the screen goes black again.
I would have thought a loose connection to the display, but the 'off' period is too consistent, and the 'on' happens only when a key is pressed, and goes back to the (now) default 'off' without moving or doing anything.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Just looking for pointers here before I try to find a parts machine and start swapping out bits.
It's a slow machine, but was a good workhorse until this.
thanks
Dave

You can replace the backlight, but it's a pain in the rear job. You're probably just better off replacing the screen, which would give you a chance to bump up the resolution if you're inclined. All the LCD part numbers are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
My R60e, running Linux, with the Intel G2 drive is my fastest machine for most things.
