I recently bought a buffalo usb 3.0 expresscard (34mm) card for a Lenovo R61i hoping to significantly increase (2x or more) the data transfer rate.

I check the area where the expresscard is supposed to be and well.....it
does not seem have an expresscard slot!?
It looks like the there is only cardbus slot!? I am contemplating getting a Cardbus to expresscard adapter.
Will I get anywhere near usb 3.0 speed with that setup?

Is there a way to change the cardbus ONLY slot to cardbus AND expresscard slot in R61i without changing motherboard?

    Any idea? Thanks.

no you wouldn't get the sort of speed if you use the cardbus slot.

you got the R61i with 14.1 inch widescreen and opted for the card reader?

I think they made some 15" R61i, which lack the ExpressCard slot.

you mean standard aspect ratio 15 inch? i haven't seen many of those in Australia, so that could be the case.

No, I think there were some 15" widescreens that lacked the ExpressCard Slot.

It is 14.1" widescreen but has no card reader as well.

Is there a way to change the cardbus ONLY slot to cardbus AND expresscard slot in R61i without changing motherboard? I think ebay might have spare part but is it limited to the motherboard?

This is a 14.1". The slot under the cardbus should be expresscard (or one would think it is). But couldn't pull it out no matter what. Seem just a plastic there permanently.
