    Greetings all,

    I have acquired R61i 8932-CTO, with Windows XP on it. I have a problem with:

    1. Acquiring drivers for PCMCI/PCExpress card, the driver is not on Lenovo web-site;
    2. Neither driver for Modem (7fmb14ww, 7oma06ww) appears to work, I receive a message: "Could not find the MODEM device for this driver."
    3. The Device Manager shows four yellow question marks, three are called "Base System Device" one "Unknown Device." (Sorry, I do not know how to capture and post a picture of the Manager). How do I find out what are they?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Kindest regards,

    M

    1) I think the Expresscard is the Ricoh Multicard Reader. Have you tried this install? - Link. This should also clear up the Base System Device.

    2) You may need to install the Microsoft UAA first before the modem will be recognised. Install this package first then try the "7oma06ww" package.

    3) For the unknown device try adding the Atmel TPM driver as this usually crops up under Windows XP.

    Dear Hearst555,

    1) Yes, I have already figured out that I forgot to install this driver;

    2) regretfully, this is not the solution. When I tried that as described with the driver I got a notice that a newer version is already installed on the system. The modem still fails to install;

    3) yes, that was it. Thank you.

    Any other idea about the modem?

    Thank you,

    M

    Does the device manager register the modem in the first place? You should have "Modem Device On High Definition Audio Bus" with an exclaimation mark otherwise the installer cannot detect to install hence the "Could not find the MODEM device for this driver" error.

    You may need to turn on the Modem via the BIOS before it can be detected. When the system starts up with the ThinkPad logo on press F1 to access the BIOS, then go to "Security", then "I/O Port Access". Make sure the modem is turned on, if not then "Enable" it and press F10 to save changes. Windows XP should be able to detect the modem driver and you should be able to install the device. Try the "7oma06ww" package again and it should be detected by the installer.
