    Hello,

Is it possible to configure my T420 as RAID -1 if I remove the DVD and use a caddie for a secondary drive in that space?

Also, I've read about many different caddie's which one is recommended?

    Thanks!!

No, the only current Thinkpad that supports RAID is the W520, and then only if you order it with RAID from the factory.

    MidnightSun,

Thanks for that information. I was afraid of that. Oh well, it appears it is time to buy a new laptop then!

The W520 seems like awesome machines, so I could be alright with that mobile workstation.

    Thanks!!

The W520 is a fine machine and will net you a better screen, but I'm curious to hear what you think RAID offers you? A SSD in most situations will be superior to RAID due to the better latency.

    Hey ZaZ,

I'm interested in RAID due to redundancy (RAID-1) rather than any potential speed (RAID-0). I just like the comfort of having some backup if a HDD fails. If there is a better option over RAID-1 for mirroring, I'm open to suggestions.

    Thanks!!

Having a good backup is always a great idea, but I think the chances your drive would actually fail is pretty small, though not zero. Unless your work is mission critical, I would say regular backup is a more prudent strategy.
