    Hi all,

I am a newbie in this forum. Thought of asking a small question here.

I want to upgrade my laptop memory from 4 to 8GB. The model is lenovo ideapad y550p 3241-56U. Most of the online material show that it has only 2 RAM slots, but a utility called CPU-Z shows it has 4 slots.

I haven't opened up the laptop. Thought of checking with experts here regarding how many slots does 550p have.

If it is 4, I am planning to buy 2X2GB modules. If not, I would have to depend on costlier 2X4GB modules.

    Please let me know!

    Thanks,
    VIneeth

PS: Sorry if this is a repeat. I had searched for a similar thread, but couldn't find any..

It has two slots. I'm curious what you're doing that would warrant 8GB of memory?

    Thanks!

My official needs wants close to 5 virtual machines running at a time on Virtual box and this would need more memory. With 4GB I am able to run only 3 VMS and that too is kind of congested ;-)

The easiest way to know for sure is opening the laptop up. It seems like you are going to upgrade either way, why not just check for yourself.
