I just placed my order for a baseline T420 with 2G of RAM. I want to bump this up and am considering my options.
I assume I can just add a 4GB stick to bring it up to 6, or I can remove the 2GB and replace with 2x4GB (and then I have a leftover stick).

Is there any drawback to 6GB (like double channel mismatched sizes?) Seems easier and less wasteful than going up to 8GB...

(by the way, I plan on running double monitors with this, will that mean I need extra RAM with the integrated controller?)

    Don't worry - I've been running 2GB + 4GB on my x201 for almost 7 months now. No problems.

1x2GB + 1x4GB should be fine. (Lenovo offers CTO option of 3GB with 2 DIMMs.)

You need extra RAM for that, but not a whole lot! On the other hand, Windows 7 will take advantage of the 6GB physical RAM to boost application performance by caching disk/network resources.

    ^^^ G.Skill is good. $70 for 2x4GB is great.

@BrianBloom: This option is worth considering. :)

Fortunately, this is one thing that's easily available here :). Got a transcend 4GB stick at around 5000 Rs. (I think). Picked it up at a computer shop I know.
