my t60 will be here next week and i want to order some more RAM now. it comes with 1gb (1 dimm). doe anybody know which memory chip manufacturer has lenovo been using on similar configs lately?
any tips on deals for a A grade memory stick?
thanks!
-
They use whichever they can get. Crucial, Kensington and Corsair are considered to be top brands.
-
do they use ANY chip manufacturer or only A grade? i consider toshiba, infineon and samsung to be A grade also.
any deals ($) out there? the cheapeast i found was $88 for kingston @ onsale.com -
Hynix memory is also a pretty poplar RAM.
All value RAM uses pretty much the same memory. Just get whatever one is the cheapest and comes with a lifetime warranty. -
If I only order 1gig in one slot, how sure can I be of getting a compatible stick that allows dual channel. My understanding has been that both sticks had to be the same for dual channel to work. Does this apply to a new t60? Will any "A" grade ram work? What compatibilities do I need to be concerned with? I'd like to have it on the way before my t60 ships, and I won't know what they put in it until then.

The official 1GB SODIMM of Lenovo is this. It has the part number 40Y7734
At $156 it is really expensive and I think it's just a rebrand of this Kingston 1GB SODIMM module which costs $116
That's if you really want to have an identical pair of modules. Alternatively you can just buy value ram for $50 that probably won't make any diffrence. -
Bios should confirm that dual channel is operatingor not, right?
-
or you could use CPU-Z, a free software.

You should be fine as long as both RAM sticks are identical, meaning the clock speeds are the same.

I've seen them ship different memory manufacturers.

found these two in the $65 range. which chips do these integrators use or does anybody know anything about them? -
i think i found the cheapest one, no tax in CA, $5 shipping:

i called they said it uses SAMSUNG chips and that although my specific T60 6371 isnt listed there that all T60 DDR2 use the same memory. Kingston actually does shows this part number being compatible with the t60 6371:

If you in the US, you shouldn't have any problem getting memory for under 50bucks, infact, check these three places for name-brand affordable memory:
fry/outpost.com, zipzoomfly, and newegg.com
I saw the prices on those pc5300/5400 drops like crazy over this pass months or so, and we looking at brand name such as Kingston and Corsair. -
Infact, here are a couple on sale

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145012
This is the rest of the list

With the memory price drop nowaday, you should be able to grab 1gb for under 50 easily anytime you want, good luck. -
My t60p is finally on the way. I've been looking at the service manual for where to install the 2nd dimm, I can't tell exactly where it goes. at least one is under the touchpad, is the other one there as well?

Yes, I've seen this, but whats hard to tell is.....Is that the 2nd dimm slot 180 degrees from the one shown being removed? It's not clear.
-
i don't have my machine yet so i dont know but from the pic it looks like they both go right next or on top of each other.
-
does anybody know if this crucial module would work on a t60 6371?

i found a made for lenovo by micron stick on ebay. i am not sure if that one works but newegg has a restocking fee so you'd pay shipping back and that fee to try it out. the cheapest non ebay memory i found by a generic mfg was around $70 and $90 for a brand name. on ebay you can get this kingston for $70, the guys been relisting the item for a while now:
