    Yes that RAM will work. I popped in a Hynix 4 GB stick and haven't had a BSOD yet. X220/i/T will do 16 GB via 2 x 8 GB sticks.

    Thanks Tsunade_Hime

    I have a X220 i7 and the most RAM I can have is 8GB

    Have you also upgraded to a SSD?

    The specs for the X220 state 8GB as the max, but it will take up 16GB.

    Oh right!

    Has anyone gone with more then 8GB and confirmed the OS uses more then 8GB or does it just use the 8GB?

    Any other effects on power etc....... ??

    If something goes wrong does the warranty get voided as the max is 8gb and I inserted 16gb?

    Hi,

    I am looking to get a SSD for my x220 and have a few questions

    1) Will the SSD replace my existing hard disk?
    2) Can I get some links to SSD's other users have purchased ?

    Regards

    No you will not void the warranty, RAM is considered a CRU, Customer Replaceable Unit. Unless improperly installed (you damage the DIMM, or something to that affect) it will not void your warranty.

    My X220 Tablet model came with the 320 series 160 GB SSD from the factory.

    1. If you get a full size SSD, yes. Though you need a 7mm height drive or one with a spacer you can remove. Some of the ones with spacers have a warranty sticker that gets destroyed when you remove the spacer.

    If you go with an mSATA, no. The mSATA offers smaller capacities for higher prices. This drive goes in the WWAN expansion slot of the X220.

    2. I've used the Crucial C300 and M4 drives for full size drives. Both required me to void the warranty by removing the 2.5mm spacer. I've also used the Intel 80GB mSata and MydigitalSSD 128GB mSata. No failures on any of the drives, all run fast enough for me.

    A 64bit OS (Win7 64bit or a linux 64bit distro) will use all 16GB of RAM.

    Also a note on CRUs: Lenovo replaced a motherboard for my company when one of our techs damaged the socket the keyboard cable plugs into when reassembling the laptop. This was an X220 I believe. They didn't give us any hassle, just sent a box for depot service.

    EDIT: Another thing to note: If you leave Hibernate on for Windows 7, it'll use up 16GB of space on your hard drive for the hibernate file. Also sleep mode will consume a little more power to keep the RAM modules powered while sleeping.

    @KCETech1

    Is the link I posted above a compatible 16gb for my x220?

    thanks

    @bogatyr

    Thanks, didn't think about the mSATA

    I saw this one

    120GB Runcore Pro V SATA II mSATA SSD 50mm: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

    Will this be ok for my x220?

    ALso looked at the description of my Thinkpad and it states "WWAN (Integrated 3G Broadband Modem)", not sure what that means, is the WWAN available?

    +1

    My 16GB 1600MHz just came today. I didn't pick 1866MHz, because they had max 8GB only.

    Used ThinkVantage Toolbox > System Information and it states under System Memory that Maximum Supported Memory is 16GB.

    Cheers!
