so... I'm sensing that lenovo cuts back on parts, aka plastic latch?

Are there any places that still sell IBM thinkpads? like surplus thinkpads that they never sold?

Hmm... plastic latches dont seem to be causing much trouble for me. they also don't look like they're going to break any time soon. I've never had a Dell latch break and those were plastic, I highly doubt the dual latch system Lenovo uses will break either.

    Anyone have theirs break yet?

I wrote the review for the Z61m. The thing was as solid of a notebook as I have seen. ThinkPads are now Lenovos so you are going to have to come to terms with it. You can probably get a T42/43 which I guess could be considered IBMs but at the cost of lesser performance.
