    Thanks, justmonkey 23

I recently built a desktop. With the desktop, it was recommended to buy memory in pairs as it is dual channel.

Is this NOT TRUE for laptops?

Dual channel is not required for the T400, but you do already have a 2 gb chip so you will have a matching pair 2X2gb.

You need 204 Pin DDR3 RAM 8500 at 1066MHz or better (anything faster will downclock). Make sure you get a single DIMM rather than a kit, or you will end up throwing one of your modules away.

My favorite places are Newegg or Crucial Direct. Prices are usually competitive and you often get free shipping.

This same advice applies to all of the new Thinkpads (x200(s/t), x301, T400/T500, W500/W700).

Thanks for the guidance. I also like Newegg (stinks though since I am in CA, I have to pay sales tax at 8.25%). The bonus though is that ground shipping to me turns out to be next day.

I recently built a desktop, bought all my parts from Newegg. Fast service, and I had some returns that were fairly painful.

The cheapest Sodim ddr3 is the gskill at newegg. If you get the eggsaver shipping it is about $67 with tax for californians.

DDR 3 is still pretty uncommon and prices haven't really dropped that much.
