I would like to up my ram from 4gb to 8gb.
    CPU is i5-2520m.

I looked up rams that are compatible with T520, ddr3 sdram, 1333 mhz / pc3-10600, SO DIMM 204-pin. However, there are too many choices and I can't pick one!

Please recommend one particular product that is proven to work well with T520.
    Of course, cheaper the better.

Also, this is my first time installing ram on a laptop, and if anybody knows a video or a website that shows how to disassemble and insert the memory stick (maybe specifically for T520 or a Thinkpad), please share, too!

    Thanks a lot

You've got the parameters right. I'd recommend this pair of 4GB sticks. Good price + free shipping. :)

It's very easy to replace the RAM sticks. Download the T520 Hardware Reference Manual PDF and look at pages 68 thru 70.

Yes that G.Skill module will work fine too.

As Hearst said, that one stick will work. I thought you were upgrading from 2 x 2GB to 2 x 4GB. Anyway, similar stories. :)

Thanks all. I ordered one for $18.99 with shipping/tax. I actually don't know if the computer has 1x4gb or 2x2gb because it's on the way, but it's still cheaper to buy one and maybe add one later than buy 2x4gb at this time.

Did you have to do anything else for the OS to detect the additional RAM?
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and was wondering if T520 needs any BIOS or OS settings change to activate the new RAM?

    Please reply.

Isn't it better to replace the one that comes with the computer due to compatibility?
