    Hi,

I have a R52 IBM with 512 MB ram which its speed is 533 and the type is SO-DIMM,

What I wanted to ask is that I am going to buy new memory for my laptop, which brand do you guys recommend ? and do you think it is better than I have the same amount of memory in both banks or it doesnt matter like I can have the original 512 and one 1024 in the other one ...

    Thanks in advance.

    Shahab.

Since you only have 512 at the moment, you will benefit alot more by upgrading to 1.5 rather than running 2X512 dual channel. I have recently upgraded to 2GB having previously upgraded from 512->1.25 GB :) ( i am using ddr-333 btw :p)

I would stick with major brands such as :

    - Kingston
    - Crucial
    - Corsair
    - and a few others :)

I have 1GB of Kingston value ram and 1GB of corsair myself.

    Thanks for the tip :)

one more question, since I have one 512 inside can I plan like this that I buy two new 1024 MB, and just open my laptop to remove the insider RAM as well and replace it with a new 1024 MB ? and then I would have 2 GB ram on my machine ? Is it a good idea or it is not possible or at least not recommended ? ;-)

Open you notebook to see how many slots you have access to, since some notebook only allows you to change one...

Other than that, yes you can replace both of them as I did :)
