Okay so I'm about to order a new T61 4:3 14.1 inch and have a few questions....

1: are both the ram sticks replaceable? I want 4 gigs so should I order 1 2GB DIMM or just the 1GB or 512MB? I plan on purchasing the RAM separately so I don't get charged an extra grand....

2: Does the Verizon WWAN option work for Sprint? I know Sprint uses CDMA as well so technically it could work...but does anyone know if this is true? If not I can just tether with my MOTO Q but I would rather just connect directly..

    3. Will the speed of the HDD make a noticable difference. I heard somewhere that with the small HDDs the difference between 7200 rpm and 5400 was negligible. Any experience in this area

    Thanks

Q1: yes i have taken both out and put it back in along with new stick
Q3: in general use you will not have much of a noticeable different, if you video edit or any intense programs involving moving files and stuff like that yes.

    1) Buy the T61 with 512mb of RAM. RAM upgrades are always way overpriced direct from the builders (Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc.). It will SUCK to use for the few days if you do not order the RAM ahead of time. But you will be very happy you did as you will save a ton of money. (I bought with 512mb of RAM and had to wait 3 days to get my 2gb I ordered, Vista cannot run well on 512mb of RAM but it will still run...just slooooow) (I also ended up paying $78 for 2x 1gb Sticks of RAM (2gb Total) while Lenovo wanted $210 to go up to 2gb when I configured my machine!)

2)No idea, but sounds like vedavin has your answer above

3)It is true what people say in this case. The difference between 5400 and 7200 is not really there for the cost. It is very minute and only shows up in certain very process intense areas and the gains are still small. Also note that the 7200 drives are hotter and will reduce battery life. I have found the loss in battery life and extra heat is not really worth the tiny bit of performance in certain areas with the 7200 drives.

You don't need 4GB of RAM (32-bit OS).
Just order the machine with 512MB and then get a 2GB stick from Fry's.com or Newegg.com and use it with the factory stick.
Definately order with a 7200rpm HD.
The difference in speed won't be huge but why to bog your system down?

the latest 7200 rpm drives are as efficient as the 5400 rpm ones and produce less heat.
