After nine-plus months of working without any problems, my T60 has frozen twice in two days.

There is no BSOD or other error message. The cursor is frozen and I've found no way to escape except to unplug and remove the battery. Then it starts up without problem.

My guess is a software issue -- Outlook has been running terribly of late, sometimes refusing to launch unless I restart. I really don't want to do a clean install; anything short of that I can do?

Something similar happens when the CPU gets too hot and shuts itself down. Do you have a hardware monitor to check CPU temp.? It might be that the CPU cooler is not tight on the CPU anymore. That happened to me before. The CPU got really hot but rest of the laptop was still cool.

If it is a software problem you can try doing a system restore if you have a restore point from before you had problems. Or install recently installed software. But most of the time it is faster to reinstall windows rather then search for the problem, that you might never find.
