So me and a friend were talking about laptops. We both came to an agreement that Lenovo is, hands down, the best overall laptop in our opinion. This girl over hears us talking and started yapping her mouth how "Pad" was an Apple term. Apparently she overheard us talking about the ideapad and thinkpad... Long story short, she said that Lenovo copied apple because the names IdeaPad and ThinkPad derived from the term "iPad".

Sorry, had to get this out of my chest. Her comment made my day worse.

Mods, lock this thread if needed.

If anything Apple copied a lot of things from others.

The term Think! was what IBM used and Steve Jobs hated IBM as such used the term Think Different as its marketing campaign till Sculley kicked him out of Apple.

ThinkPad was released in 1992, and when did Apple have its iPad line? When did Steve Jobs rejoin the Apple board?

I think that girl just doesn't know what she is talking about.

This is what happens when a product comes to represent your identity; you feel the need to assert meaningless technicalities to strangers. Even if she was right, who cares?

I do hope you patted her on the head and said "There there. There there".

you did set the record straight with the aid of a flying kick aimed at her throat, though, right? ;-)

the apple crowd include some who needed a new religion and Jobs was their messiah

Nope, no kick or pat on the head. My friend and I just looked at her in a weird way, then she called us geeks then left.

I don't think she was right... The iPad (derived from iPod I think), was a 20th century term unlike the ThinkPad.

You know that little program that comes on every Windows PC, called Notepad? Yeah, they copied that from Apple too. :D lol

Even better, send her the story about how Jobs was fond of the famous quote "Good artists copy, great artists steal."

Ya best to ignore real life trolls. Also tell her if she drops her iPad, have fun spending 400 to fix it while a ThinkPad will at least survive the fall. ;)

That's kind of funny considering that she felt the need to actually butt into a conversation about laptops and give her two cents.

Flying kick? I find that a T-series with the rollcage makes for an excellent blunt instrument... :D

Plus how could she have missed the fact that not only did the ThinkPad copy the iPad's name but it's also black - and if you get the Edge, it comes with a chrome bezel. That's SO RIPPING OFF APPLE! :D

I'm on an engineering team and some of the Mac guys are having trouble running Inventor on their Parallel-ed MacBook Pros while my 2-year-old ThinkPad can have it up and running within ten minutes.

She must be simply very young and ignorant, but by a very innocent measure. Young people usually lack the life experience needed to understand the huge endless overall knowledge context into which their own limited knowledge is embedded in. It takes years of accumulated failure to finally understand that. This ultimately enables one to teach and make people aware of a broader perspective, but unfortunately this opportunity was not taken advantage of here.

May i assume that you are an age peer of said girl? You appear to share some of her traits, as outlined above.

A more mature approach would have been to not start such a pointless thread. I'd suggest closing it right away.
