Didn't get any answers, so....
I have a T60 with an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 in it. The Display Properties/Settings only shows one monitor, though I have a desktop monitor plugged into the vga port on the advanced docking station. This was given to me in an IT environ, could they have disabled that feature somehow via a Windows 2000 policy or bios setting? I've checked both and can't find anything relevant.
By using the Catalyst Control Center, I was able to extend the single desktop over the laptop and external monitor... but Display Properties/Settings still doesn't see 2 monitors. Also, the Catalyst Control Center only shows a big "1" but no "2" in the far-right window in the Display Manager, but does show two monitors in the boxes to the left of that (one under 'Main' and one under 'Rightmost'). So I'm not sure it's got it quite right either.
It's not quite as nice as the dual-monitor thing in windows. There's no 'primary' monitor, so for instance, when locking your computer, the dialog is split between both screens unless you move it. If you maximize a window, instead of filling one of the two monitors, it fills both (ugh).
Any clues out there...?
Thanks for any info/help...

Try using Ultra Mon. Its free. It may help. I work helpdesk at my job and I doubt that would use group policy to restrict you from using dual mon's.

Well, thanks for the suggestion... but why should I have to buy software for something that sounds like (from what others are saying) it is intrinsic to the laptop? I appreciate the answer, but are there no ideas about why it's not doing for me what it seems to do for others?
Thanks again... -
Just to clarify... I went to http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/download.asp and it says
"Trial version limitations: the trial period is limited to 30 days, the software is otherwise fully functional."
Did I go to the correct place? You mentioned it is free... -
http://www.mediachance.com/free/multimon.htm
here is multimon - a freeware 'version' of ultramon (I hear its not as good but thats the price you pay....well..for...something thats free)
btw: restarting your computer usually helps -
I tried Ultra Mon but that doesn't help. It simply complains that I have only 1 monitor. I think it only configures stuff after you have the dual monitors working.

perhaps try uninstalling display adpaters under device manager and then reboots to let windows auto reinstall dem, sound like might be dockind station compatibity prob,

please read all of it (it may help you) even the 'related topics'.

I would first try uninstalling/reinstall latest video drivers though
