I have my credit card in hand and ready to find somewhere online to buy either an X61 Tablet or an X200 Tablet.

Depending on the pricing, I will go with one or the other.

    • Core Duo 2 1.8ghz minimum
    • no need for bluetooth or fingerprint reader
    • ram not an issue, will add on my own
    • screen choices may be a big factor, would like something nice to look at without being hi-res
    • integrated graphics are OK
    • would prefer hard drive space of over 100gb.

I'm a student, have a visa, and live in California (USA).

So, point me in the right direction :). Looking to spend hopefully around a thousand, but can stretch if needed.

    Thanks,
    Sean

I would wait a few more days until the next discount. Lenovo seriously has sales every week or so.

If your budget is $1k then the x200t would be out of your range for sure.

If your budget is around $1000, the X61 Tablet is really your only choice. The X200 Tablet currently has a starting price of $1844 on the Lenovo website.

The X61 Tablet is priced at $1279, but there have been 25% off coupon codes for the X61s and X61 Tablet for the last month or more. The most recent coupon expired yesterday (1/26) but new codes will be available in a day or two.

Are you aware that the X61 Tablet display is 4:3 aspect ratio? The X200 Tablet display has a 16:10 aspect ratio (commonly referred to as "widescreen"), similar to most notebooks.

    Just so you are aware:

The x200 uses 45nm CPUs that top out at 1.86 GHz. The x61 uses a 65nm CPU and tops out at 1.6GHz.
Both of them use integrated graphics only (x4500 for x200, and x3100 for x61)
The x200 is widescreen (1280x800 for all varieties), the x61 is standard (most 1024x768, some 1400x1050).
All these screens are of very high quality, but the x200 is brighter (AFFS+ and LED).
You must decide if touch is important to you ( many are digitizer pen only).
Both use 2.5" SATA hard drives, you can easily swap in a 320GB or 500GB hard drive on your own.

You'll probably get a better deal on an x200 if you buy it preconfigured (unless you combine the sales just right). Provantage is always a good option, and be sure to check the Tabook for specs.

If you go for the x61, the Lenovo outlet is probably the cheapest place for a new model. eBay may also have some lightly used ones (may be the only way to get 1400x1050 as it is now discontinued).

Additionally, check with your university. Many get a break on certain brands of notebooks (including ThinkPads), and this may be the cheapest channel for you (3yr warranty is also standard on most university models).

I just found this on the outlet. It is exremeley powerful, to the point that I believe it to be a misprint.
    • x61 Tablet
    • T7700 (2.4GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 35W TDP)
    • SXGA+ (1400x1050) [pen only]
    • 2GB DDR2
    • 250GB 5400RPM HDD
    • Wi-Fi 4965 (AGN)
    • 8 Cell battery
    • Carrying case
    • Antenna
    • $1103
This is the most powerful ThinkPad tablet I have seen, and if speed is a concern it may be a good choice. However, I personally would be concerned about the CPU. The x61 Tablet is designed for a low voltage CPU with a 17W TDP. This is a standard voltage processor with a 35w TDP. This could cause the machine to overheat, and would almost certainly cause it to run hotter, louder, and achieve less battery life than the low voltage 1.6GHz option.

Check out eBay also. Just got mine delivered yesterday - purchased from thinkpadsusa on eBay. Check bmm89's listings also.
