I've finally settled on the right laptop for my needs, a T400. Now I'm just waiting until the price is right. So far that I can tell, I can get about 15% off by using the Visa discount (5%), plus an additional 10% using another coupon code.

Is something better likely to come around? Should I hold out for holiday sales, or is 15% as good as it will get? I'd like to get this thing purchased by the end of this month if possible. Just curious if anyone has been watching the T400 deals closely, or expect any major deals coming up soon. Thanks!

I'm also waiting for a good deal to buy the T400. The thing is, I've been using EPP account because my friend works at IBM. Right now, the base price for an enhanced $912 without any added on features.

The one I'm interested in is an enhanced with p8600, LED, turbo, bluetooth, 5300 and a 6 cell battery which comes out to about $1080-$1090 without taxes.

My question is, is this deal considered good or not? Should I wait or is this about the same price that people would get during black friday? I know that coupons generally aren't stackable along with EPP. I don't know if I should buy it now or wait for a better deal.

Buy it when you need it or you will be waiting forever. Black Friday? Cyber Monday? Back to school? Christmas? Boxing day?...

Turbo's a waste of money, get the 9 cell battery instead.

And to everyone asking if they should buy now: no. Wait for better deals, because they will definitely be announced as the holiday season begins in earnest.

How does the 3% cash back work? you get 3% off or.. 3% of what you purchased goes to fatwallet and you buy stuff through them?

You setup an account using fatwallet, you then go to Lenovo's site "through" fatwallet. (You search for 'Lenovo' while on fatwallet's page and while logged in), and then you purchase the laptop normally. After you accumulate enough dollars, fatwallet either sends you the cash in a check or you can have it directly deposited. You have to wait a month or so for the money to become "available" but it's worth the extra cash you get back, especially with larger purchases. Note: Use IE and turn off popup blocker when you go through fatwallet. I have had problems with firefox in the past in that it would not "detect" that I had gone through fatwallet to get to a vendor's site.

In answer to your question ZaZ, there were a number of criteria:

Portability. I've had a 15" laptop before and it was too heavy, so I'm looking for something relatively lightweight and portable, in the 13-14" range.

Durability. I plan on traveling extensively around the world with this laptop, and would prefer that it could handle some dings and bumps without falling apart.

Dedicated graphics. I do like to play games here and there, and would prefer that it could run some decent 3d games. However gaming is certainly not the focus. Photo editing would be another major use for this laptop.

Price. I'm trying to spend under $1200 when all is said and done.

If you guys know of any other notebooks that fit the bill I'd love to hear about them, or notebooks being released in the near future.

If you're in Canada I think that visaperks.ca is the best way to buy even for parts and upgrades. I think redflagdeals.ca usually lists their stuff. Are prices going up or down with the recession? Perhaps parts will be more expensive with credit harder to come by. I would say that there might be some deals in January, but xmas is usually so busy I doubt that will be the best time to buy. Anyhow, the deals are already so amazing. Saving $100 on a $1600 purchase isn't worth waiting all that long for really is it?

Yeah I'm holding out until Mid December to buy my X200, How much is the EPP Discount? I have a CPP code (google it) which brings a stock T400 to $712.35*...

I just hope that atleast this holiday season they lower prices. An extra $100 pretty much means I can afford that bigger SSD ;)
