I've been following the boards here for a little while now...at least a couple weeks before any announcements of the new T/R/SL series.
My question is... I want a laptop that will last me all the 3 next years through College and my classes start August 24th.
If, lets say, the new Montevina laptops come out before August... what are my odds at actually getting the laptop before my school starts?
Thanks very much in advance.

I think it took 2 or 3 weeks for me to get my laptop last year from powernotebooks.com, I can't exactly remember.
There is a college rush depending on where you purchase from, so the later you order the more time it might take. You'll probably be safe if you allow a month. -
I really don't think anyone can tell you when you'll get your laptop that is not even out yet.
Think about it.
Not even Lenovo knows.

It's going to be really tight. Lenovo has 2-3 estimated shipping time for the T and R series at the moment. When the rush comes in, I assume its going to take a longer + back order issues. Currently lenovo do have any 6/7/8 cell batteries. You have to wait 2-3+ months to get one.

Thank you very much for your replies... I guess I'll ignore the July 4th specials and wait another month and kick myself if the new Ts don't come out before late July.

I am also in the same boat. I was really looking forward to the new Dell E-series and the new T-series with the new chips but I have to get my laptop before I leave for school and it takes about 2-3 weeks to ship!

I'd say your odds of getting one by then are slim. They always trickle out at first due to working out the kinks in production. If you can wait great, but if you need one by the end of August, I'd suggest buying now. The performance difference between Montevina and Santa Rosa will be marginal if anything as it usually is from one generation to the next.

The big thing is going to be the new designs. There's a new generation of roll cages, and mag alloy on the bottom now. Out of Montevina, the most I expect is a touch more battery life and a small evolution in performance. The integrated graphics could prove substantial, but probably not for a few years until the drivers catch up.
I swore I was going to wait, at least until the announcement so I could make a fully educated choice. I decided I don't even need my laptop for the start of school, but determined that the X200 isn't going to be as big a step even as the T series (the R series is probably the most improved), and just couldn't resist the great deals going on right now. The 8% discount on top of educational discounts are almost as good as CPP, which also has a larger than normal discount. -

Yeah, from what I understand, they'll be using the carbon/glass fiber roll cage of the X300. The X200 won't have a roll cage at all, but does have the mag alloy on the bottom (as do the T's and R's).
The SL's will be all plastic. No roll cage, no mag alloy.
Realistically, when can I expect a system?
