    hi friends,

I have had my T42 for about a year now. It has decent configs (P 1.7, 1 GB Ram, 60 GB HD, etc). Until now I am still not convinced its performing like it should. The laptop has been working fine, no issues really, its just when I boot up the laptop windows task manager shows me that there are 63 processes. I can see a lot fo them belonging to IBM programs (like the active protection of the HD, and more).

I would like to know if you use the pre-configured programs on ur IBM thinkpad, or did you rebuild it. I mean the thinkpad can only run be running faster if you selectively install the programs u want right? Thank you for your time.

    Best wishes!

    Mustafa

I personally always do a fresh install then just put the programs back that I want like the battery maximiser, fingerprint software, HD protection, etc. You can go into msconfig and turn off any of those that you don't want to start when windows boots. Then I use Acronis True Image to make a backup of the hard drive so I can re-install it any time I want. Couple things you can do to speed up performace are turn off file indexing and system restore. Be warned if you turn off system restore you won't be able to go back if something goes wrong. Good Luck.
