hi. I'm looking to purchase the T400 once it comes out on Aug 5 (which is what people say), but I need it by Aug 22. For those of you who have experience or knowledge in this area, would I be able to receive the T400 by Aug 22 if I order it the day it comes out (configured/customized and not prebuilt).

    Thanks.

I'd have a backup plan. What is the nature of the hard deadline of 22 August?

Customized/configured? I really doubt it. Even pre-built you will be pushing it for that deadline. You just need to decide if it is better to hold to that deadline or have the new features.

I certainly wouldn't chance ordering a custom configuration of a brand new model if that was a hard deadline by which you had to have a computer. The time frame is just too tight. If nothing else, that would be the time that it took multiple days to clear customs. Murphy's Law, you know.

I doubt if you wait till Aug.5 to place your order you will get it by the 22nd. So many people are going to be ordering. Lenovo already has a battery problem and its been 3 months. You still have to wait over 4 weeks to get a 4/6/7 cell battery

Oh, well with a lot of colleges today that's not that hard of a deadline then. While you wouldn't want to go too long without a system, many schools have sufficient facilities that a student can limp along a little bit.

Definitely check with the school though, especially if there are any upperclassmen that could give an unbiased assessment.

thanks for all the quick replies.

yeah i am starting college and i head off on Aug 22. I mean i live close by, but i would rather not get it after college has already started and bother with reformatting to remove bloatware and installing all my software and files.

I looked on the lenovo site and it says the SL400 would take 4 or more weeks to ship, so maybe that means that would be the same for the T400? I had just put in an order for a SONY SR series, but I can still cancel it. I guess that depends on whether or not i can get the T400 before Aug 22. From all your comments it seems like getting it b4 Aug 22 as a customized T400 would be risky and unlikely.

    Thanks again.

They always trickle out at first as they work out the kinks in the manufacturing process. If the T400 has something you really want, then you may wish to wait. From a performance perspective, they won't be all that different.

I would wait for at least 3 weeks more, so the price will be more stable and hopefully some sales too.
