it seems most people have the alps. Mine has the alps keyboard and the LG screen. Which screen is better the LG-Phillips or samsung? On the parts info page they are both listed as 220 nits.

Traditionally the LG screen is better than the Samsung screen. But I don't know what the verdict is with the new batch of LG and Samsung screens.

I have the Chicony keyboard and the LG screen. I have nothing to compare to, but I have no major complaints with the keyboard, except that it is a bit clicky.

The LG screen is quite bright. I usually keep it at 80% brightness while the laptop is plugged in.

Anyone know if there is any correlation between the T60 and T60p in terms of the T60p getting the LG screen and NMB keyboard since it is higher end. Or, is it still just as random when getting the T61p?

I just got a T60p that came with the Samsung screen and NMB keyboard. I have no complaints about the screen.

Sorry to resurrect a somewhat old thread but I just got around to checking my T61's keyboard + screen that I've had for a month now. It turns out I got the NMB keyboard and the LG screen. From reading around here, it seems this is the best combo?

I got mine late last summer and mine is:
    FRU # 39T0958 = NMB

This keyboard is nice, but I have used another friend's TP and that keyboard felt much more solid, which I prefered. The NMB keyboards are very easy to push, but I think I liked the solid feel better.

I went on the parts lookup page to see what type of keyboard I have:

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...2Fpartslookup/partsLookup.vm&sitestyle=lenovo

Does anyone have to codes for the screens? Mine is 13N7063.

    How recent is you computer?
There are quite a few reports that the newest Chicony's are not any worse than the NMBs.

Anyone still intrigued by the different brand keyboards should read this thread over at thinkpads.com. RonS does a great comparison between the 3 keyboard manufacturers. From what it seems, the newer Chicony made keyboards are not as bad as they use to be.

Also, people who are buying OEM aftermarket NMB keyboards [whether directly from IBM or somewhere else] should be aware of the Chicony keyboards being rebranded as NMB keyboards.

That's funny, I have completely different impressions of the keyboards than him. To me, the chicony feels like it has the most tactile feedback, and is loudest. The alps is softest and quiet. The nmb is also quiet, but with more resistance.

The fact that everyone comes away with different rankings of the three just goes to show how minimal the differences really are. There is no consensus, and IMO most preference boils down to what you're used to. For instance, to someone using chicony, the alps might feel too soft at first, so they say it's "worse". Then going from one of the other two to the chicony, it is too loud, but I personally like the clickiness.

From reading different threads it seems that there are two (or more) versions of Chicony.

That, along with the facts that some NMB's are actually Chicony in disguise, and that they all feel a little different from case to case/model to model, further supports these distinctions and rankings are arbitrary.

Can anyone with a T61 with a NMB keyboard confirm their keyboard is in fact an NMB and not a rebranded Chicony?

The new chicony one I have is actually great. My wife's T42 has the Alps, which has more give and sound which I kind of like, but this chicony is really nice and probably a nice balance (resistance wise) so it makes less noise.

I confirmed I have a Chicony. While I prefer the keyboard of my 4 yr old Dell Inspiron, i've gotten use to the T60 Chicony keyboard. I've read that the NMB keyboards have a softer silent feel over the Chicony so i've convinced myself the Chicony is the one I probably would have liked the most.

In fact the keyboard on my 4yr old Dell Inspiron 5100 has a solid feel. Solid tactile feel, with short throw keys and you can hear the keys as well. It reminds me of the keyboard that was on my old IBM Thinkpad 380ED laptop, great keyboard btw. I just don't remember who made their keyboards back in 1997 when I bought the laptop.

You got the US, English NMB keyboard.

Here are the keyboard FRU's again.

Edit: Also, for people who are too "busy" to read through the entire thread, here's the info to find the FRU and the keyboard manufacturer who corresponds to the FRU:

    I have ALPS. No complaints.

Dunno if the touchpad is manufactured by the keyboard maker, but I could use tighter touchpad buttons - but not a make or break scenario.
