I just received my X61 in the mail today (ordered 10/04/07). However, the outer casing of the laptop has the old "IBM ThinkPad" written on it and not the newer "ThinkPad X-Series" (like my Dad's, who received his over 8 months ago). I am wondering if other people (who ordered this laptop recently) have also been receiving the older casing and if this is casing is bad/worse than the newer one (might affect cooling?). It also did not come with that red and black sticker in the bottom left of the lid which at first made me think that this system might have been refurbished? The lid also has some play in it (up and down) when closed and does not seem like it is solidly shut (is that normal?). Should I contact Lenovo? Please respond. Thanks in advance.

You are lucky. I just got my R61 without "IBM" logo on it, so disappoint.(ordered in Oct 1,)
My machine didnot come with that red and black sticker in the bottom left of the lid too. anyone know why?
I think the casing should be the same. -
The case itself is of no different design or material. Simply the logo.

I have a recent t61p with the IBM sticker. Don't worry.

Buy a sticker or get one

From past threads I think it may depend on how you order (resellers, lenovo.com, epp, spp, and other portals). I think EPP ones are still coming with IBM logos, but I believe one of guys on LenovoBlogs stated that they'll be phasing that out by the end of this year.

My t61p came with the IBM logo on both lid and palm rest and I didn't order it from reseller, epp or spp.

Ordered through lenovo and got the IBM logo.
I haven't seen anyone at my university with the red dot thinkpad logo. -
The T61 sold at my university store has the "Thinkpad" logo on it.
Seriously, it's just a logo. I actually think the "Thinkpad" logo looks better than the old IBM logo. But then it's just an opinion. -
Thanks for your responses. I also prefer the newer "Thinkpad" only logo, but as long as there are no differences, in terms of hardware, I don't really mind.

As stated earlier, the logo you get depends on the channel in which you purchased the notebook.
This post on the Lenovoblogs should clear things up. -
I would think that the "IBM" logo is the preferred logo for any IBM designed product.
Definetely IBM / Thinkpad Logo should be preferred if it is a T series model!
Ones of the reasons I bought a new Thinkpad is a wanted to see Big Blues Logo before it's No more with a Notebook!
Believe me if it did not say IBM ThinkPad, I would be HP or Dell It!!!
Some Names speak for themselves!
But I am Old School anyway!
