I really like Thinkpads and am particularly partial to the Trackpoint. With the excellent deals right now, I am toying with a T61, but the SL500 is similarly priced. Primary purpose is for family use, mostly web and productivity but some amount of video encoding. I would think the T61 would have better build quality, but the SL500 has some nice home-friendly features like HDMI and built-in camera.
I'm not sure what would be faster/better - T9300 processor on T61 or P8600 on the SL500? Also, you can get a 7200RPM hard drive on the T61, but not the SL500.
I've priced a T61 with integrated graphics, 15'' WSXGA+, 3GB RAM, 160GB 7200RPM, DVD burner, and 9 cell battery for $993. A somewhat apples to apples configuration of the SL500 is around $1,200.
Any recommendations? Thanks for your help.

I have to agree with the others, the T61 is more of a Thinkpad than the SL500.
