    Recommendation for my mother?

She wants a lightweight laptop (due to her condition) and in my opinion, it should have at least 4GB RAM and uses Intel processors (Core i3 is fine).. otherwise it should have web cam and touch pad. Mainly for internet browsing and some MS office suite.

While I would like to recommend her U260 (she likes size of my X200), she doesn't want to pay that much. She wants somewhere between $500-600. Lenovo Outlet deal is fine. She just wants one before the New Year.

Would there be big sale around that time?

Seems like Edge 14 with Intel (with student discount) + coupon code falls in the range.

    Intel Core i3-370M Processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3, 1066MHz FSB)1
    4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)8
    UltraNav without fingerprint reader
500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm4

for $575 before tax and shipping.

Do I need to make upgrade from Thinkpad bgn wireless to higher WiFi adapters?

While I want to try to get her U260 or T410 around that price, I can't seem to find a deal that falls in that department.

I heard about Visa discount but I'm not too sure how it works. Up to 35% discount right?

I have higher standard for buying my laptops so I can't seem to come to a conclusion.

My father just want her to get anything from Costco but I don't like that idea.. what do you think?

Please help me out!! Thank you!

From your description, it sounds like performance isn't a really big factor. If so, why not take a look at X200 machines in the Lenovo Outlet, if she likes that form factor (it doesn't have a touchpad, though)? A Core 2 Duo will run pretty much all daily-use applications very well, and won't be the bottleneck.

The Edge 14 you listed isn't bad, but she should note that it will be a fair bit heavier and larger than your X200.

There's sales on Lenovo's website quite frequently - while there's likely going to be a sale around New Years, I think it'll be around the same as the other sales.

Costco is good. You get an extra year of warranty and 90 days to try it out with no restocking fees.

I've not seen them on Lenovo's web site in a while, but didn't see anything official. You could probably get one on eBay or the Internet. There was one on NewEgg last week for $350.

What are some good sites to purchase laptop? I've been checking out various deal sites, lenovo.com, and thinkpads.com but there's nothing much of a good deal right now..

I use google.com/products to compare prices, it, however, does not display all prices from all shops so youll have to browse and browse and browse again all possible sites to find best deals ;)
Set yourself price point at which youd want to buy a notebook and start browsing, once youve found what you are looking for grab it :D

$499 at Office Depot is a great deal.....just remember it only comes with a 4-cell battery (not sure if your mom need to be unpugged). But you do get a nice spill resistant keyboard and a shock proof HD.

Newegg, amazon, tigerdirect, buy. Generally mainstream sites. Smaller operators rarely have better prices and if you have problems the large sites are better at addressing issues.

I just missed the Outlet deal for $381 (same spec as Office Depot) for refurbished Edge 14. Are these good deals pop up frequently? Is refurbished notebook from Outlet trust-able? It looks like some deals are really cheap.

I would say it's more occasionally than frequently. I've bought from the outlet for myself and others. They always have looked new and came with a new battery. The downside of the outlet is all machines have a one year warranty that cannot be upgraded.

Thank you all! I bought $499 Edge 14 deal from Office Depot. They're now back up to $729.. Good deal but bad Office Depot CS.
