I just got off the phone with Lenovo and they want to charge me $45 for recovery CDs?![]()

You can create your own with the R&R software.

"Parts and labor"
-
YMMV, but when I called I told them that the R&R failed when I attempted to make my CDs from the utility on my hard drive. They sent them for free afterward.
-
Hp charges $60 last year I checked :-(
-
Ever since laptop manufacturers started supplying recovery software on their laptops themselves, they have ALL started to charge for them. Its a way for them to save time and money to simply put the software on the machine and leave it up to you to create it.
-
Anyone got a T61 they could make recovery CDs on for me? i'll pay!
-
From what I understand, you can only do it once. If it fails then you may be able to get support to send them out for free.
-
oh. k, i'll try lenovo again. i've called twice and got the SAME csr TWICE. he put me on hold the second time, haha! i think he recognized my voice or my serial number. what a 8==D
-
Why don't you make your own discs with R&R?
Did you call customer service or tech support? I recommend tech support.
-
Duly noted. My interaction was with tech support not customer support.
-
I'll try to contact Tech Support. Thanks ARk

I've already repartitioned my hard drive and wiped the factory ghosted partition! I didn't expect this much hassle getting factory stuff put back on. -
Let this be a lesson to others: before you go and do ANYTHING, make sure you have a way to get back to the factory fresh image.
First thing I did on my system was to use a 3rd party program to make a full system image on an external drive. I used Acronis True Image and the image size was about 22GB. I then made a set of recovery media using the Lenovo utility; gives me two ways to get back to a fresh image if needed. -
I think I hosed my T400 factory settings too. Oh well. =)
I doubt I'm going to be selling this bad boy for a LONG time. LED panel made by LG = godly. Doubt there will be any tech advances in LCD screens for a while. Just gotta stock up on NMB keyboards and replace as needed. -

whats the part number for NMB keyboards
-
Here are the part numbers for the three T60 keyboards:
39T7118 - ALPS
39T7178 - Chicony
39T0958 - NMB
And the same for the T61:
42T3209 - ALPS
42T3273 - Chicony
42T3143 - NMB -

thanks septigre. i think i'll have to pay for the Cd's if i go through lenovo. gonna try other means..
-
-
yup. i'm using a t61 NMB in my t400 right now. they're all excatly the same.
-
-
Could be ... because there are different configurations...different drives...
Before you call them...need "Part info" ...regarding type, model, operating system...
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-49QTT6
For example:

I think they do it by type. The recovery discs for all 2007-XXX machines are all the same, the 1956-XXX the same, etc. I think they'll work on any ThinkPad, but drivers will be different, by type.
-
I got one for free. Moreover, I asked them for Basic, but they sent me an Ultimate version, which worked with Basic product key.
