Hi -- new T420 did not come with a set of recovery disks -- is this something that they accidentally left out, or Lenovo no longer sends?

Lenovo like most OEM PC Manufacturers don't ship Recovery CD's as a cost saving measure, instead they provide you a software utility where you can the burn the recovery CD's yourself. You may want to read the Recovery section of my guide for more info on this procedure.

    Hearst,

Lenovo didn't ask me for 1 CD-R and 3 DVD-Rs when I made the recovery media, they let me use a bunch of DVDs instead. I have 3 DVDs and a boot disc which is also a DVD-R. Is this going to be an issue?

I also have a downloaded copy of Win 7 Premium (from notebookreview and I have the proper license ) - can I use that as an alternative? I'll be working with a clean drive and no ThinkVantage partition. What's the proper way to bring over all that stuff?

Doh. I just did a more thorough reading of your post and answered most of my questions, but I'm still wondering if Lenovo's replacement drives come preformatted with a recovery partition.
