    Hi,
I had just used Acronis TrueImage to copy the 40GB HDD from my T40 to a much newer 100 GB HDD, but it only copied the main partition. I know there is a hidden recovery partition, but how would I go about copying it? It's way outdated, but it beats buying a new copy of XP Pro is something goes horribly wrong.

I used ghost to clone mine. During the selection process I had to choose the partitions off the first drive to clone onto the second. If you do not choose both partitions, or if it does not give you an opportunity to choose (the hidden partition was hidden from acronis. In my case it was not hidden from ghost.) then it will only clone the main partition.

You have to change the drive in the BIOS to Compatibility mode from SATA. When my friend was helping me test my system with Ubuntu, he had the same problem at first.

my gentoo 2007.0 liveusb booted on my x61s, but i updated the bios to v1.06. i think i'll try dd'ing the MBR and the recovery partition somewhere, and then dd them back to restore.

I use Paragon Drive Backup to image my drive. The software will show you the hidden partition and supposedly also allow you to backup the partition (that's what i did, although I have not yet had a need to perform a restore).

I don't know whether the trial version will work for you. I vaguely remember that the trial version works for 30 days.
