I bought a second hand x60. Unfortunately, the system does not contain the recovery partition, and the seller did not have the recovery disk.

The machine itself does not carry any guarantee any longer. Would I be able to request a recovery disk for it?

the lenovo site suggested to buy one. But I kinda of remember somebody in this forum mentioned that he got a set of free recovery disk. I don't remember whether the machine was still under warranty for that case though.

if you no longer have warranty then you won't be able to buy it from Lenovo, but you can buy a set from marketplace forum.thinkpads.com or ebay.

since you have the T400, you can put your X60 hdd into the T400 and load the recovery discs of the T400 in your X60 hdd. Then take your hdd out and put it in your X60 and recover to factory condition, but you may need to activate the OS using your X60 or T400 OS serial key and reload the drivers, since they are different.

Unfortunately, My T400 has a 64 bit system, whereas the X60 has the T2300 CPU which I don't think it will support 64 bit system.

I have tried to use the XP recovery disk that came with my T400 to restore the X60, didn't work out.

Thanks again. Linux is fine, just need to get used to it.
