Probably not. Windows 7 is an operating system. I don't imagine it will make the manufacturers do anything at all.

Will Microsoft force the manufacturers to provide a recovery disk with the system? I doubt it.

If you purchased the W7 free upgrade program, Lenovo will ship the recovery media along with your W7 upgrade DVD. Hence, the shipping fee.

Lenovo will not ship nor provide you W7 media if you installed from OEM or Retail.

I think it was a good idea that manufacturers stopped shipping recover DVDs and started using recovery partitions. You can imagine how much of a pain it was back in the day when you ask "Do you know where your installation disks are?"

"I lost them when I moved."

"I threw them away with the packaging."

"I think they are at my parent's place."

Sure but when you have a system that was installed with Vista first you need new media. It would be nice if there was a method to load Win7 in the recovery partition. I am sure someone can figure that out.
