When you purchase a ThinkPad, it is packaged in an antistatic bag and sealed with a tamper-evident sticker. The sticker is red, with an image of a lock on it.

Anyone know the name of the manufacturer that makes those stickers? Even one that makes stickers like that? I sold a computer with the sticker intact, and the buyer accused me of removing and replacing the seal. I'm trying to find a page describing the seal, showing that it just doesn't work like that.

the only way to acquire an official security seal is to work for lenovo in one of a handful of locations where systems are packaged for shipment.   these environments are controlled, so walking out the door with spare seals wouldn't exactly be easy.   besides, doing so would be against company policy and considered theft (and grounds for termination), leaving workers little reason to lose their jobs over a decal.

the seals and packaging tape used to seal boxes are made specifically for lenovo and will not be released to anyone other than lenovo.   the entire process is done quite securely.   the chances of rogue seals/tape floating out there are slim to none.

whoever accused you of resealing your system is being paranoid.   i can say with 100% confidence that what he claims you did would have been next to impossible.

I think it's possible that the red seal can come off in one piece. Sometimes, they don't press the sticker on firmly enough. In this unboxing video of the T410, you can see how the seal came off in one piece, so it could be possible to reseal it in this case and none would be the wiser.

Not even Lenovo Australia have these security seals to spare when they reshipped R500 which had their hdd and ram upgraded.

darkwish - you are correct.   i was referring to acquiring a new sticker to replace a damaged one.   carefully removing an existing sticker would be possible if it's not installed properly from the factory.

I was able to pull off the sticker without damaging it, too.

There's only very minor flex near the Esc key. This issue was been way overblown.
