    Hello,

I was always under the impression that the refresh rate doesn't really matter on an LCD screen. Is that in any way true?

I have an R61i (like t61 but cheaper lol) and when I switch my screen from 50HZ to 60HZ the backlight lamp (at least I think thats what it is) starts emitting a high pitch electric noise, not the CPU buzz, since at 50HZ it is fine, and I have power management disabled in BIOS, so no cpu buzz, I was wondering if this is normal and if theres any difference from 50hz to 60hz on a 14'1 inch lcd to be concerned about it?

Also if it matters, my screen is 1280x800 samsung (very bright, no problems there), and on a side note, yeh i was thinking about getting 1440 screen, but after having 15'4 inch dell with 1680, I noticed that my vision had gotten worse, so I decided to go bigger this time :)

1.) Refresh rates on LCDs should be left alone. They are not the same as CRTs.
2.) Size/resolution is not as big of a deal as manufacturer/ luck of the draw.

If your computer works fine at 50MHz, don't stress; let it be.

If you have a low reponse time LCD would a higher refresh rate help at all? Or is 60hz (which is the default on both my displays) sufficient?

No. Response time != refresh rate. Just listen to vespoli and leave everything as is.
