What kind of condition can we expect from a refurb purchased though the Lenovo outlet? I'm looking at it and can't decide between a cheaper refurb, or a unit listed as "new".
Also how do warranties work? Is there any option to extend the warranty of a system purchased from the outlet?
Thanks!

Every ThinkPad I ever bought from the Outlet looked, smelled and behaved as an absolutely new unit, even if it were listed as "scratch and dent" or "refurbished".
Obviously, YMMV.
No.
Units purchased via Outlet carry a one-year warranty and are eligible for post-warranty service agreements only afterwards, and these are more expensive when compared to standard warranty extensions. -
I concur, new keyboard and new battery too.

I once got a T500 with some scratches on the bottom, and one scuff on the lid. It was listed as "scratch and dent", so no problem there -- and it was also at a heavy discount from what its new counterpart would have cost me.
But apart from that, my experience matches ajkula66's. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Nothing wrong with Outlet minus the Post Warranty Upgrades which cost 2x a normal warranty upgrade in warranty.
-
Same experience here ... but be prepared to wait. It takes them forever to ship.
-
Great, so it sounds like new and refurb units can be expected to look like new. That's good to know.
How does one purchase a post warranty upgrade anyhow? -
Trading-in one's left kidney works in most cases, but YMMV...

You can input S/N and type on support.lenovo.com after warranty expires.

My "refurb" came. It's brand new i dont even know why they called it refurb. maybe they replaced a stick of ram or something minor and have to label it as such cause it was previously opened.
Battery count = 1. Everything keyboard, mouse, etc. all new. Good stuff. -
Many of those refurbs are in fact brand new, some of them may be shipped out after the customer cancelled it and was returned unopened. Any packages that have left Lenovo's distribution center in Shanghai and returned will be labeled as refurbished, whether used or not.

I think that is the one drawback of a purchase from the outlet. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you are stuck with the 1 year depot warranty that most of the devices come with.
-
Sort of.
When last I checked, technically the outlet machines don't come with a warranty. They come with a 1 year service agreement. This is like a warranty in most everything but the fine print. The major difference is that while you can upgrade a warranty to up to five years total of depot or on-site coverage, service agreements can only be extended by 2 years (IIRC), with no option for on-site coverage or accidental damage coverage. -
Right, the problem I'm now facing with the outlet is every time I try to check out, it tells me I need to tick the terms and conditions checkbox. Except I already have! Anyone had this problem before?

Maybe clear your cookies and cache or try a different browser.

Already thought of that. Cleared cookies, tried different browsers, tried different days, and different products - the first did disappear from the store eventually.
Am using Amazon checkout (others are not an option for me), and there's just that one item in my cart. -
Then call them.
-
Always "need to tick the terms and conditions checkbox" error
I'm crazy with lenovo.com -
Can't I'm not in the US. Though I am shipping to a US address, and Amazon payments reportedly work.
Just tried again. This time it's "invalid item in cart".
Guess I just have no luck.
