I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T400 laptop. Recently I reinstalled Lenovo Power Manager, which lost all my previous custom registry hacks/tweaks that I implemented that enhances battery life. It used to be around 9-11 hours battery life with my fresh Vista installation after implementing the registry tweaks in question, but after reinstalling Lenovo Power Manager power consumption went up by 2-5W on average and my battery life dropped more than 3 hours.

I recall that there's a guide online that outlines details on what registry variables to change for the power manager in order to achieve maximum battery life for the T400 (and possibly other Lenovo laptops, which uses the Power Manager) -- but I spent hours searching for it and I can't seem to find it. I recall it was linked to by some 'fresh install guides' or whatever, but all the ones here on Notebookreview.com doesn't seem to match :( So if anyone can find the guide on optimizing Lenovo T400 for battery life registry tweaks/hacks, which should bring nominal power usage to around 6-8W as I recall, or have the information on them, please do post them -- any help would be GREATLY appreciated! :D

Well, 11 is the IDLE time haha. 7-9 hours is when I am actually online with WiFi @ 60% brightness.

I used the exact same power settings as before and it doesn't help -- and it's really bugging me that I can't seem to dig up the registry tweak guide. :(

thats crazy battery life, what stuff do you turn off? what stuff _ can_ you turn off? most you can do is probably drop the processor performance, go integrated graphics, but the screen brightness really hits the battery life. 60% is still very high brightness.

i remember like 10 years ago panasonic had this thin notebook with an extended battery that is exactly the same size as the laptop body (but thin) which provided 12 hour battery life. that was impressive.

I don't recall haha. It's some registry tweak guide that's for fresh install of Lenovo T400, but I don't remember exactly what it changes :|

Actually because of that I used to use my monitor on max setting at school all the time so I don't have to lug my AC adapter around the campus. I can go an entire day with 40% or more left. It lasts even 5.5 hours on 100% brightness surfing the internet.

This is the first I'm hearing of these tweaks as well, but if someone finds them, I'd be very interested in trying them out.

BTW, if you have system restore enabled, then go ahead and try a restore to see if that changes your settings back and fixes your battery life. Then copy and make a backup of that registry before installing power manager and maybe if no one finds the link for what tweaks to make, it might be possible to extract them from this backup.

With all those power saving tweaks, did you find that your laptop was underpowered? I'm quite happy with the 6½ hour battery life on my T500 but an extension would be nice.

On my X60s running Windows 7, I also had poor battery life, untill I decided to try reinstalling all Lenovo applications related in some way to laptop configuration or power management. That made a huge difference as power draw now fell from 10w to 7w. You might have to do something similar.
I got just got an X300 that I also installed Windows 7 on, and power draw is down to about 7.2w on lowest useable setting. With the 6-cell battery and bay battery, my capacity is about 60 Wh, so that gives a runtime of up to 8 hours.

If you find the registry tweaks to further increase battery life, I'd love to hear about them.
