my x220 has just arrived, so I am really happy....but I notice that the battery is protruded out/sticking out of the back of the latptop, which looked VERY UGLY AND NOT NEAT.
I watch x220 videos out there...it seems it's not the case with 6 cell battery. 6 cell is neatly in line, no protrusion.
so it is a case of long battery life vs. aesthetic .... I didn't know that before I orderedotherwise I will just choose 6 cell....I like things look good
any remedy now?
thanks

I'm not sure if you can return and re-order, but you could just order a 6 or a 3 cell battery and just keep the 9 cell as a spare for when you need it
-
how much is a 6 cell? already max out my spending on a laptop
-
The 9-cell is sought after by many users. Maybe someone will see this and will be willing to trade batteries with you. Otherwise, list your battery on ebay and thinkpads.com, and purchase the 6-cell.
-
The 6 cell is $150 from Lenovo. The 9 cell is $180-ish. The 9 cell is a convenience from what I find, as it allows me to get a better grip on my laptop when I'm carrying it. If you wanted something that looked good, you should've gone for something else (though, I do think that ThinkPads are like the best looking laptops, all business, no BS).

crap! I just fully charged my 9 cell awhile ato for the first time after I just got my laptop a few hours ago........
6:38 for 91% remaining battery? I thought a 9 cell last at least more than 10 hours? -
-
I'm getting around six hours on the six-cell. I kind of wish I had got the nine-cell so I could pick up the four-cell for around the house. I don't usually need more than a couple hours.
-
While it may seem ugly at first, just the fact that you get so much life out of the battery makes it that much more worth it to me. I was in the same dilemma as you at one point!

I am quite the opposite. I got the 6 cell for the clean look and less weight, but really regret not getting the 9 cell now. It's proving to be VERY difficult finding a well fitting sleeve/case for these with 6 cell, but several would fit well with the added inch from the 9 cell sticking out. haha.
I'd offer to trade + some cash, but I only have 4 days left before going overseas for a couple months. Too short on time now. -
ok, since people are prefering 9 cell, guess I will just stick with it
-
Don't rely too much on the battery meter to tell you how long it'll last. When I first got it, my 9-cell went from 100% to 50% in ~5 hours of use (browsing, programming, 720p, brightness on 13). I haven't timed it recently but it lasts long enough for me to last the whole day.

Windows does some disk thrashing/self-optimization on a new system, especially after drivers/hotfixes/patches/software. Let it settle for a few days.
Also remember to defrag if you have a platter drive. I recommend UltimateDefrag (paid) for it's file layout algorithms. I'm sure you can script MyDefrag to be very similar, but OOB, MyDefrag is pretty good too.
Also ensure your Power Manager settings don't have CPU pinned at maximum; an adaptive CPU speed is best for both energy efficiency as well as performance-on-demand. -
Well, I must be the only one here (and possibly on the planet) who thinks this but:
'Regretting.....6 cell battery vs 4-cell'
Yes, I know it's only a 200 gram difference between it and the 6-cell but it's a similar difference between the 6 and 9 and many people here recommend the 6 because its lighter than the 9.
When I take my x220 out, it's usually only for 3 hrs max of use and running out of juice wouldn't be the end of the world either.
Plus it's ligher at home with the 4-cell.
Will pick up a 4 when I see one going cheap somewhere.
* I should also mention that I have a serious back condition -
But, as I mentioned, since it's so hard to find a well fitting case, I would of paid the extra $29 for the 9 cell just for that reason alone since lots of sleeves seem well suited for 9 cell equipped but too narrow and loose for the 4 and 6 cell. -
Why don't you hunt down a cheapish 4-cell and take it with you when you expect to be out for long? That combined weight of 4 and 6 is probably similar to the 9, plus you get an extra cell's worth of power. The 9 make's the whole thing heavier when you are at home.
I feel your pain over the sleeve. I'm just wrapping it in bubblewrap for the time being but I'm sure something will turn up. If you check out local stores, sometimes there are 13" MBP cases. -

Personally, I find that the extended battery adds to stability on a desk too; it prevents backwards tilting when opening/adjusting the screen, which in turn reduces the strain on the AC jack because it is no longer used as a fulcrum.
Pick the battery setup you want based on your own needs. Democratic truth doesn't necessarily apply to an individual. -

I like the 6 cell. No fatty back.
