I have a T61p. I have Vista 64 Ultimate and Linux Ubuntu 8.04 installed on the machine. I use GRUB to dual-boot either OS.
I want to remove the IBM recovery partition. I need the disk space for other things.
This is what Gparted (when running in Linux) tells me about my partitions:
/dev/sda1/ is the recovery partition
/dev/sda2/ is the Windows partition, and it is flagged to boot
/dev/sda3/ is my Linux partition
What I want to know is, can I remove the recovery partition using gparted in Linux, without ruining windows, linux, or the ability to boot my machine? Gparted in Linux will let me try to delete the recovery partition, but obviously I havent tried it yet. If I shouldnt use Gparted in Linux, then what would be the best way to remove the recovery partition, given the setup of my system?

I would not use GParted.
It might affect the MBR.
Try reformatting the recovery partition from within VISTA. -
You can use any partition editor your comfortable with.
deleting a partition will not affect the MBR
Nether Linux or Ms rely on the recovery partition to run, there are diagnostic utility's you will loose, but they are not necessary.
if you haven't done so "try" to make the recovery CD's if you are still under warranty and you can't make the CD's (verify fails, disk not found) save the exact error message and call Lenovo and have them ship you a set. ( must be able to prove you couldn't make a set or they will charge you ).
Ubuntu Rocks.
Compiz 3D on my 3 year old T42 was nice, on my T61 its awesome !
it makes Vista's hardware requirement a total joke.
Remove T61P recovery partition while in linux?
