My T61 is slow as molasses (Vista, 2GB, 5400rpm, T7300, integrated, no Robson) compared to my old cheapo laptop, would uninstalling ThinkVantage help much? How would I then control the wireless, bluetooth etc? I also have this diskeeper program on there, is it worth it or does it slow me down more than it helps? Should I wait until they update them and they work well? Thanks.

disk keeper might be running constantly, which slows down your computer. you should set it to not automatically run whenever your hdd needs to be defragged.

Removing the Client Security seems to help quite a bit.

I think it does some kind of security stuff, not 100% sure.

Thanks for clearing that up :)

I am preparing myself for totally screwing up my system and starting over.

Just make sure you burn those recovery discs, and leave that hard disk recovery partition alone.

Seriously, ThinkVantage is a whore. It creates so many processes and services and takes up a huge load of memory.

the diskeeper program is awesome tool but you have to go to administrative tool/services and set it to "manual" instead of automatic. in short, (almost) any process can be customized to your needs. the best way is to get to know your system better.
