So I am planning on taking out the main hard drive of ny y410p and putting it in the ultrabay slot and then putting on a crucial ssd for the main. Would this work?

SSD Main HDD Ultra. You want your OS to be in a fixed (main) bay, but you want your storage to be removeable (ultrabay).

I suggest reinstalling the OS to the SSD and just using the HDD for bulk data like games, files and movies.

Ah ok that means games would load on my hdd instead of my ssd right?

Well you can put your games on the SSD, but generally it's best to put them on the HDD since they do take up lots of space, and SSD's are less cost-effective.

Let's say C: is your SSD and D:is your HDD. When installing Steam/Origion/Standalone games you would want to choose whether you want the games on C: or D:.

What do you mean SSD are less cost effective?

Thanks for your help by the way!

1TB SSD costs more than 1TB HDD...

Ok. So just to clarify any ssd can work for both a laptop and a desktop right?

Also I am planning to get the samsung 840 evo (do u recommend it?)

How do I put windows on it since. Do I have to get another os or can I use the os on my y410p?

Not any SSD will fit. It should be 2.5"

There are probably other ways of getting windows 8 on the SSD, but I would download windows 8 iso from microsoft, use their windows iso to usb program to make a bootable USB drive. and install windows via usb.

The 840 is a wonderful drive in my opinion :) as you can see I have two of them they work flawlessly :) there my first SSDs I've ever owned and they are wicked fast very satisfied with their performance
