    Hi All,

Maybe I'm being a little nitpicky here and you're all gonna laugh at me, but I'm just wondering what might be the potential weight reduction of removing the modem from the X200 :D Unlike others, when I ordered my X200 I did not have the option of choosing whether or not I wanted to have the modem. Does anybody have comments on this?

Yea. You’re being a lot nitpicky. The modem is mainly a software modem so weight savings will be completely unnoticeable. If you want to save a tiny bit of weight, if you don’t use an SSD HD currently, get one and replace your existing HD with it.

At most you will save 5-10 grams as you eliminate a port and the modem daughter card (although I think this controls the 5-1 card reader as well).

BinkNR is right about the SSD. A 1.8" SSD (the only type Lenovo sells) is about 50 grams less than a 2.5" HDD (see the SSD effects link in my sig for pictures on a scale).

Hmm interesting, thanks for the replies guys, I guess I'll pass on it :) I came up with the idea when I was throwing out an old PCI modem and realized it was heavier than it seemed lol.. But I guess I was comparing apples and oranges :p
