I had a catastrophic failure of a sector on the 40 gig hard drive on my X30. The computer would not boot so I mounted the drive on my desktop and repaired it, locking out the damaged sector. Now I am scared that it might happen again and I may not be able to fix it.

I purchased a parallel ATA 160 gig drive and Symantec Ghost 14.0. But now I need to find out if there is a way to copy the entire old drive, including the hidden section, onto the new drive. I can purchase a CD from Lenovo that will write the default image on the new drive but can I make a copy of what I have?

What's wrong with using Ghost? I don't know if Lenovo is selling recovery discs for machines that old. You certainly can call and ask. They usually cost $45. If not, you may wish to ask over on ThinkPads.com. Someone over there is probably more like to have a set than here.
