Hi,
My wife has a 15" T60 (2623-D9U) with a XGA screen and a X1300 graphics card in it. Can I replace the XGA screen in her T60 with a Flexview screen? Or are are there technical reasons that would make this a bad idea?
I've seen replacement Flexview LCD screens for sale online. But I'm wondering if there might be some issues with the connectors, voltages, power, etc. since the Flexviews are 200 nit screens while the XGA is a 150 nit screen. Right now, I'm leaning towards the 1400x1050 Flexview rather than the 1600x1200 Flexview -- but don't know if it would make any difference.
I'm also wondering if a Flexview replacement on a XGA screen would work on a T60 with a GMA950. Does anyone know?
I know the aftermarket/replacemnt Flexview screens are expensive. But I'm thinking a brighter, nicer screen with wider viewing angles would be nice for the wife. BTW, she wouldn't want to swap her T60 for a T60p, since she doesn't want to take the time to reinstall all her software on a new computer.
Thanks a bunch!!
Louis

I think you are better off just selling your notebook and getting the one you want.

Hi,
While I'm mainly interested for the wife's current machine, I'm also wondering because my ideal configuration isn't offered by Lenovo.
Thus, if doing an aftermarket upgrade to a Flexview is possible, I might buy myself a T60 with a lower speed CPU with 950GMA integrated graphics, then add a Flexview screen. Since I don't do games at all (mostly just reading, research and writing -- a lot), I suspect any CPU with a 950GMA would be fine, really. To me, it's what's easiest on the eyes for 8-16 hour periods that matters most. I've only seen Lenovo offer Flexview on higher end laptops.
I didn't know about Thinkpad Migration software. Thanks for mentioning it! I'll have to get clued in on that. Does anyone know if it works 100% perfectly? My wife would really worry about some problems coming up with that, since she's a user not a techie. It takes her a long time to load and get all her software configured just how she likes it. She HATES the idea of switching computers (and insist on a laptop). That's why I got her a T60. Figured it would last her a while. She uses it all day almost every day -- and LOVES it.
Thanks again!

You can probably buy a ThinkPad with a FlexView screen for around the same price as a ThinkPad and a FlexView screen. You should also note swapping the screens will likely void any warranty you have even if it is technically possible which I am sure it is. I don't think the x1300/1400 versus the 950 is a big issue. Even if Lenovo offered on with the 950 I don't see you saving much.
Replace XGA in T60 with aftermarket Flexview? Will it work?
