    Hello,

If I buy the current 15.4'' T61, the available graphics card is only

    Intel GMA X3100 GM965

Can I buy another card to replace it? Is this hard to do myself?

How is WUXGA/WSGA+ related to this graphics card upgrade?

    Regards,
    David

No, you cannot upgrade the graphics card.

So it means I have to wait for this so-called T61p?

Depending on your needs and how release/shipping times are, you might find it more worthwhile going with the HP 8510w or HP 8510p.

There are minimal differences between the 3 machines.

The HP 8510w and HP 8510p are identical except for the GPU and screen res.

HP 8510p GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
HP 8510w GPU: NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M or ATI Mobility FireGL V5600
Thinkpad T61p: NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M

The 8510w and T61p support WUXGA, the 8510p does not.

As for differences between the Thinkpad T series and the 8510 models...
The 8510 will offer Blu-Ray and HDMI, the Thinkpads will not.
Thinkpad will offer Expresscard Slot, the 8510 will not.
Thinkpad has a better keyboard and cooling (in theory).
Thinkpad has a better *reputation* for durability.

The 15.4" T61 will be available with the Quadro NVS 140M sooner or later so unless you want the WUXGA screen you don't need the T61p.

And, I'm not sure why you want a dedicated video card...

Dreamer, I wanted to take advantage of fatwallet and tailormade for a possible buy now and upgrade later myself. Also wanted to know how T61 could be configured by users.

    Best,
    David

Look at the GPU FAQ on why having a dedicated video card is always better than not. Besides that nvidia is simply better at it than intel.

No, it's not. And, if you have a similar misconception, then it's about time to do something about that.

Only if you need it. He doesn't, but you are not supposed to know that.
