So Fedex dropped off my replacement 755M card today. In the box was just the card itself, I mean the gpu with no fan, nothing.
So, I installed it in the old case, put paste on it, etc. Now, it says "Unauthorized Slave VGA card is plugged in. Power off and remove it."
I uninstalled all the drivers and reinstalled. Nothing.
So the hell with it. I am boxing it up and sending it back. I used to work on Thinkpads in the workplace, they were always quirkey as well and never followed the norm. It seems that hasn't changed a bit.
Very frustrated as you can probably tell......

Single GPU master race!

Lol, I guess so.

I think I will return it and order something more in line for gaming. I think this games excellent, but the cooling has always been suspect.
Do you have any dealings with Sager/Clevo? I have owned about everything else. The Alienware was fine, but I wasn't real impressed with it for 4 grand. -
I personally dislike Clevo, but i can't make decisions for you. I'd go with MSI, or you could wait for the Y50/Y40.
-
Yea I have looked at some of the MSI, I like those. They seem a bit on the cheap side, the way they look, but maybe I am wrong. Any specific reason you dislike Clevo? I know nothing about the brand really, so I ask in all honesty.
I do know that they used to be the maker of the early Alienware laptops. Alienware just rebadged them of course. -
You keep bringing up the Y40/Y50. Neither is a gaming machine. The Y50 lacks the GPU chops to game at 4K, and the "up to" GTX-860 is likely a rebadged Kepler with a slight speed bump. Not a big upgrade there either. The appeal to these two machines is their slimmed down profile, which also means smaller cooling solutions.

Had the laptop all packed up and ready to go. Can't ship it out until Monday, so I got bored and took it back out. I took out the replacement card for the Ultrabay and put in the original. Works like it should........Guess they send me a defective card. All the numbers were identical on the GPU's.
Getting ready to play some Total War Rome II on it, then I will send it back Monday. -
If the 860M is a rebranded 770M, that will be more than enough to play games at 1080p, which is the optimal scaled resolution of the Y50. Also, the Y50 will have dual fans, which should improve thermals over it's predecessor.
Don't take my word for it though, AFAIK it could still be a thermal disaster. -
It might be a thermal disaster, good choice of words. It looks identical to the 510p just a lot slimmer. Maybe they opened up a few openings on the bottom or something. Would be pretty easy to fix our issues.
-
Well, that, except they removed the side fan (allows for the ports to be placed more towards the rear) and nudged them behind the display ROG style.
-
Well,
My fan isn't working on the ultrabay now, rofl....It has become comical at this point. That decided it for me, what a POS. They can have this turd. -
aren't there any solutions for this problem yet?
i'm in egypt and i waited for the gt750m5 to arrive for a month now. and after inserting it in the ultrabay on my y510p
it gave me the error: unauthorized slave vga card...etc.
what can I do? -
Contact Lenovo, and send in the laptop.
