    Hello,

I decided that I would like to stick my x25-M in my x200, and I was wondering what my options are going about installing my Vista with no optical drive or recovery disks.

Mmm zero? You could probably get an install on a thumb drive, but that would require you to actually have a Vista disk

I don't really have any good solutions unless you had a network WDS to connect to.

Why don't you have the recovery discs?

Rescue and Recovery should allow you to create those disks under Thinkvantage.

If your laptop came with Vista, they won't give you Vista recovery disks. You should boot into Vista, open up "Computer" in the Start Menu, and then double click on the Lenovo partition (Q, usually) to start the recovery disk burning process. These disks will restore your computer back to factory state (Vista, with all the Thinkvantage software). The process requires 1 CD and 2 DVDs.

Ok, since I have no USB optical drive, would it be possible to "burn" an image and transfer to a computer with a burner? Anyone know any programs that may be able to do that?

The problem is that the recovery software will only Write to a physical optical drive. I know plenty of disc emulation tools for reads (Daemon tools, Virtual Clone Drive, et. al.) but NONE that emulate writes.

There may be some optical write emulator that can write directly to an image from any program, but I do not know of any.

Your best bet will probably be to clone your existing drive onto the x-25M. You can either use a USB enclosure, or if you have access to a desktop with SATA just place both drives in there and do a clone. Acronis seems to be a very popular option, and I have had good luck with Self Image (Note: Self-Image cannot resize partitions, you must do this yourself).
