Hey guys, so I got my Y580 and want to replace the tim since I know the stock stuff is crap. I found this thread but it doesn't really explain well how to take it apart: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ide...580-arctic-mx4-much-better-cpu-hdd-temps.html
and these pictures help somewhat: DIY
but I am curious as to who else has done it, and what I need to watch out for so Lenovo doesn't think I opened it (lol) also in the second link there is a picture with a red box that says HDD, is that little chip the HDD or what? And do I need to remove the keyboard to replace the tim or just the back parts. Thank you guys

I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a fair amount of experience taking apart laptops.
It's not a trivial task at all. There are a number of places like short ribbon cables and clips and what not that can be damaged if skill and knowledge don't come together in the proper combination.
Warning aside here is the maintenance guide that shows the take down if you decide to proceed

thanks, looks more complicated then I hoped. I will probably do it if i only notice throttling. Thanks again
